"African Americans and White Americans have faced similar problems when wanting to participate in politics."

The title of the cartoon states that both African and White Americans have similar issues when is comes to voting which is clearly not the case in the cartoon, in fact it's the completely opposite of what the cartoon portrays. The picture shows the way to the voting booth which is an obstacle for the African American man because he has to go through a literacy test, pay poll taxes, and still face the Grandfather Clause, not to mention white men trying to kill him (KKK, noose). The white man, on the other hand, does not have to go through these obstacles and he get a shortcut straight to the voting booth. The cartoon shows that the White people try to prevent Blacks from voting even with the 15th Amendment in place because of racism back in the day.

Currently, things like this are none existent and there are no more racism when it comes to voting. But this does relate to our class discussion of how, even though the 15th Amendment was passed to not discriminate people of race, color, and previous condition of servitude to vote, this was interpreted very loosely and other laws still prevent Blacks from voting.

  1. 1. The title is being sarcastic.
    2. Racism still exists when it comes to voting, such as the voter ID laws passed just recently.
